Tips used when buying this basket

Check sales and be flexible
Chicken was not on our list when we went to the store, but we found that this chicken was a great deal at only $0.99 per pound!

Use foods in multiple meals
Make chicken broth out of last night's chicken thigh bones, cook a large portion of rice to have some ready to eat for the next day, make extra root vegetables and store them in the fridge for a quick side later on.  The options are endless!  This tip is a useful one to make sure you avoid wasting food!

Budget Pantry Tips

Budget Pantry
  1. Cooking meat and vegetables on a sheet pan in the oven is a simple, budget friendly, one pan meal.   Cut up your veggies, add your meat and some seasoning and you're good to go!

  2. Making your own vegetable or chicken broth can be easy and can you save money!  Use the bones and trimmings of the chicken you don't eat.  For vegetable broth, use peelings and scraps of the non edible parts of vegetables.

  3. Add individual spices to your pantry little by little. They last for a long time and are great to add to to plain foods for more flavor. Pre-made spice mixes often have a lot of sodium, so make your own blends!
